I am a champion mover

I moved 13 times in 4 years one time.  At least it was only from one state to another and then to another.  I’ve never had to make a big move.  However, I actually like moving because it tends to make it easier to purge stuff because when you are forced to decide whether to pack things and haul them around or toss them out or give them away, you tend to end up with a lot less stuff than you had.

When my husband worked construction, we moved a lot and we purged alot.  When you live in a camper in a campground, you get really tired of packing stuff up so you get rid of it.  However, we are stationery for now and we have managed to collect a whole mess of stuff.

I’ve been thinking a lot about purging like we were going to be making a big move.  But, at least if he does manage to work himself into a bigger and better job, we will have the services of a cross country moving companies.  And, trust me, if I get the chance to move cross country and I know that someone else is going to be going through my stuff, you can guarantee I’ll be forcing a purge to happen around here because there is no way I would ever let someone see all the crap we have managed to accumulate in the last six and one-half years.

What about you?  Would you let someone in your home to go through your stuff?

Shopping – How you do it when you have a cast for 6 months?

I’ve had a cast on my foot since January.  I fell while walking down the street and trying to text and tweet at the same time.  I broke a bone in my leg.  My doctor didn’t want to put a plate and screws in it and we of course were all hoping it would heal.  But, four weeks came and went, six weeks came and went and the ortho that I was seeing referred me to a foot and ankle specialist.

And, he wanted me to get a real cast and be non-weight bearing for 4 weeks.  And, so I did.  Then, he thought 3 more weeks might help.  And, an MRI, 2 more weeks, surgery and 8 more weeks and I still have a cast on my leg.  I graduated from a cast to a smaller thing on Friday and I actually went shopping today in a real store.

Why is that weird?  It is weird because for the last 4 or 5 months, I’ve forgot what it was like to walk around in a store.  I’ve been doing my shopping online and if you are going to shop online, it is a good idea to check out some of the good bargains.

If you are careful and you take your time, the online auctions are a plenty but the deals are something you have to watch for.  You can’t just jump in with two feet (no pun intended), you have to do your research and then you can absolutely find better deals than you will ever find in a store.  So, get busy……especially if you have a broken leg….definitely get busy…

Michelle Obama leaves Italy

So, the media has taken to calling Sasha and Mahlia the “weeMichelles”.  It’s kind of funny to see that in print.  I call my oldest son Ditto Boy because he looks just like his father and my youngest son is known as Mini Me…..for obvious reasons.

But, back to the weeMichelles.  Stories were abuzz about a purse that the First Lady was carrying, or at the cost of almost $6K, I think they call them something besides purses…a clutch maybe?  Anyway, of course she is still wearing sleeveless dresses and those doggone arms just keep looking stronger and stronger every time she breaks out a new sleeveless dress.

She really is a beautiful woman and I stand by idea that Michelle Obama will not only be the most influential First Lady ever, she will be the best dressed First Lady, even over Jackie O who is known as a major fashion icon.

J Crew and the Obama Children

Michelle truly has done as much as could be expected of her.  Just recently Malia had a birthday and to show you just how down to earth this First Family really is, Sasha and Malia were wearing J.Crew clothing and that was enough to get the eyes and ears of many people.  J. Crew even put out a press release about the girls wearing J. Crew clothing.

Now, I personally do not have anything J. Crew but I know many normal, every day people who do.  So for the first family to be dressed in J. Crew, how cool is that?

Tuxedo Shirts for Me

When I was in high school, I was a drum major at my school.  I had a vision of the perfect uniform but not being very skilled at drawing, I had to rely on words.  And, with that, my mom went to work.  She did indeed make the cutest skirt and blue sequined jacket I had ever seen.  But…what was I going to wear underneath the jacket.

Well, that’s when the search started.  We started with the local stores that rented tuxedo’s for weddings and we just kept working our way through town.  Many of the shops didn’t carry the ruffled shirt that I wanted and I certainly had no intention of renting one every time I needed one.  I wanted to buy one.  How hard could it be to find a store that would sell a simple tuxedo shirt?

Honestly, when you live in a small town like I do, it was darn near impossible.  We ended up traveling to a larger city before we ever found anyone willing to sell a shirt, not rent one.  Odd?  I thought so.

Parenting debates including Michelle Obama

I watch The View on DVR in the wee hours of the morning when it’s quite.  I absolutely do not know of a person who can make me more irate than Elisabeth Hasselbeck.  I am a liberalist.  There, I said it.

She opens her mouth and stupidity seethes out of her mouth.  I want to like her, I liked her when she was a contestant on Survivor and honestly, how can someone with her conservative views run around in a bikini for days on end?  She really doesn’t make sense to me when she speaks and on today (Monday, June 22, 2009) Whoopi basically took the opportunity 2 different times to put her in her place.  And, I had to laugh.

Anyway, Elisabeth spoke up on an issue of disciplining children and although Whoopi and Sherri’s views were very obvious, Joy’s was also obvious, Barbara remained somewhat neutral on the topic and Elisabeth?  I never figured it out.

And with that, I am drawn to the fact that Michelle Obama is speaking out in an interview tomorrow.  I want to see it, I have to find it and get it ready to record before bed…and I’ll let you know how it works out……who does she agree with on The View?  Any of them?

The Eiffel Tower

I have been on the warpath with my husband who spoke with some folks who could help him get a job working in a position that would allow us to travel.  And, living abroad would give our children the chance at an education that no text book can ever simulate.

The First Lady and the girls (and the President I assume) toured the Eiffel Tower and apparently the American Foreign Press was the only news service to get photos.  The girls and their mother jetted to paris from D.C. for a few days of private vacation tmie.  And, then, on Saturday, the First Lady took care of some “official business” and travelled to the Normandy coast with President Obama to mark the 65th anniversary of D-Day and then return to Paris.

According to Press, the Kennedy’s Paris tour in 1961 was the last time the French were eager to see a U.S. first family out on a sight-seeing weekend.  Mr. President had gone ahead a day earlier for their first foreign visit since the presidential election.

You know, a romantic dinner for Michelle – The First Lady

I have to admit, I gave Michelle Obama quite the bashing in my last post, but, the truth is, I really hate that I had to do that.  But, the thing is, that was the one time I was really not happy with the First Lady and hey, if you could see the things I’ve worn before, you’d understand.

Anyway, I can almost bet you she didn’t wear that little outfit to her dinner in Paris that her husband had promised her.  Yes, Mr. President promised his wife a dinner at the chic LaFontaine de Mars.  What was it that they ate?  Ah…duck foie gras salad with pears and decadent brulee.

Ok, gues what, i have no clue what that is.  Even the folks near in the French Bistro were excited that Obama dined near their location.

So, now I don’t know what she wore nor do I know what the heck she ate?

DNA – it’s a learning curve

As I sit here writing this, I am watching a marathon of crime shows.  And, they are showing the boy scouts how a machine works that takes a fingerprint and then searches through a database to see if it matches in any criminals.  A kid’s finger was put in the machine and then everyone was chatting.  Wayne and I were chatting that it was going to be a match and I quickly said yea, he was kidnapped.  My husband said, “Humm I don’t know”.  And, with that, the machine popped up a match, scaring the lab tech to death.

They call in the boss and the screen is showing that indeed, the child was in the database as an abducted child.  So, now the time has come for these folks on this crime show to start checking the kid and parents ancestry dna so they can attempt to find out exactly how this kid came to be in the system where the lab tech just told the kid there were only harden criminals.  OOPS!

You all know I love Michelle

Ok, so I’ve made no bones about how I feel about Michelle Obama.  She will be the most influential First Lady ever, wait and see.  I called that one last summer before her husband was ever elected.  Then, the closer we got to election time, I called her out to be the best dressed First Lady and that was over-riding even Jackie O.

So, imagine my surprise when I open my big world of internet and I see this…

What in the hell is she wearing?  Dear lord were they headed to the grocery store for bread and milk?  And, if so, why are the men around her in suits.  Come on, give me some room to work with here.

So, here’s how her outfit is described…omg, ya’ll, this hurts -

Topped off a be-ribboned and multi-layered tunic (worn over black pants) with two of her signature J.Crew cardigans, then accessorized the layers with a bold polka dot belt and bright Toy Watch.

No, that’s not even acceptable for the park to play.  And what the heck?  Wearing all those layers now?  Two cardigans?  She had on a freakin ‘sleeveless dress in January what in the world would make her want to add all those layers now that is it is actually summer time?

*shakes my head*  This post and that photo may have to leave here soon, this is painful.
