Tuxedo Shirts for Me

When I was in high school, I was a drum major at my school.  I had a vision of the perfect uniform but not being very skilled at drawing, I had to rely on words.  And, with that, my mom went to work.  She did indeed make the cutest skirt and blue sequined jacket I had ever seen.  But…what was I going to wear underneath the jacket.

Well, that’s when the search started.  We started with the local stores that rented tuxedo’s for weddings and we just kept working our way through town.  Many of the shops didn’t carry the ruffled shirt that I wanted and I certainly had no intention of renting one every time I needed one.  I wanted to buy one.  How hard could it be to find a store that would sell a simple tuxedo shirt?

Honestly, when you live in a small town like I do, it was darn near impossible.  We ended up traveling to a larger city before we ever found anyone willing to sell a shirt, not rent one.  Odd?  I thought so.

Parenting debates including Michelle Obama

I watch The View on DVR in the wee hours of the morning when it’s quite.  I absolutely do not know of a person who can make me more irate than Elisabeth Hasselbeck.  I am a liberalist.  There, I said it.

She opens her mouth and stupidity seethes out of her mouth.  I want to like her, I liked her when she was a contestant on Survivor and honestly, how can someone with her conservative views run around in a bikini for days on end?  She really doesn’t make sense to me when she speaks and on today (Monday, June 22, 2009) Whoopi basically took the opportunity 2 different times to put her in her place.  And, I had to laugh.

Anyway, Elisabeth spoke up on an issue of disciplining children and although Whoopi and Sherri’s views were very obvious, Joy’s was also obvious, Barbara remained somewhat neutral on the topic and Elisabeth?  I never figured it out.

And with that, I am drawn to the fact that Michelle Obama is speaking out in an interview tomorrow.  I want to see it, I have to find it and get it ready to record before bed…and I’ll let you know how it works out……who does she agree with on The View?  Any of them?

The Eiffel Tower

I have been on the warpath with my husband who spoke with some folks who could help him get a job working in a position that would allow us to travel.  And, living abroad would give our children the chance at an education that no text book can ever simulate.

The First Lady and the girls (and the President I assume) toured the Eiffel Tower and apparently the American Foreign Press was the only news service to get photos.  The girls and their mother jetted to paris from D.C. for a few days of private vacation tmie.  And, then, on Saturday, the First Lady took care of some “official business” and travelled to the Normandy coast with President Obama to mark the 65th anniversary of D-Day and then return to Paris.

According to Press, the Kennedy’s Paris tour in 1961 was the last time the French were eager to see a U.S. first family out on a sight-seeing weekend.  Mr. President had gone ahead a day earlier for their first foreign visit since the presidential election.

You know, a romantic dinner for Michelle – The First Lady

I have to admit, I gave Michelle Obama quite the bashing in my last post, but, the truth is, I really hate that I had to do that.  But, the thing is, that was the one time I was really not happy with the First Lady and hey, if you could see the things I’ve worn before, you’d understand.

Anyway, I can almost bet you she didn’t wear that little outfit to her dinner in Paris that her husband had promised her.  Yes, Mr. President promised his wife a dinner at the chic LaFontaine de Mars.  What was it that they ate?  Ah…duck foie gras salad with pears and decadent brulee.

Ok, gues what, i have no clue what that is.  Even the folks near in the French Bistro were excited that Obama dined near their location.

So, now I don’t know what she wore nor do I know what the heck she ate?

DNA – it’s a learning curve

As I sit here writing this, I am watching a marathon of crime shows.  And, they are showing the boy scouts how a machine works that takes a fingerprint and then searches through a database to see if it matches in any criminals.  A kid’s finger was put in the machine and then everyone was chatting.  Wayne and I were chatting that it was going to be a match and I quickly said yea, he was kidnapped.  My husband said, “Humm I don’t know”.  And, with that, the machine popped up a match, scaring the lab tech to death.

They call in the boss and the screen is showing that indeed, the child was in the database as an abducted child.  So, now the time has come for these folks on this crime show to start checking the kid and parents ancestry dna so they can attempt to find out exactly how this kid came to be in the system where the lab tech just told the kid there were only harden criminals.  OOPS!

You all know I love Michelle

Ok, so I’ve made no bones about how I feel about Michelle Obama.  She will be the most influential First Lady ever, wait and see.  I called that one last summer before her husband was ever elected.  Then, the closer we got to election time, I called her out to be the best dressed First Lady and that was over-riding even Jackie O.

So, imagine my surprise when I open my big world of internet and I see this…

What in the hell is she wearing?  Dear lord were they headed to the grocery store for bread and milk?  And, if so, why are the men around her in suits.  Come on, give me some room to work with here.

So, here’s how her outfit is described…omg, ya’ll, this hurts -

Topped off a be-ribboned and multi-layered tunic (worn over black pants) with two of her signature J.Crew cardigans, then accessorized the layers with a bold polka dot belt and bright Toy Watch.

No, that’s not even acceptable for the park to play.  And what the heck?  Wearing all those layers now?  Two cardigans?  She had on a freakin ‘sleeveless dress in January what in the world would make her want to add all those layers now that is it is actually summer time?

*shakes my head*  This post and that photo may have to leave here soon, this is painful.

I am in awe of Michelle Obama

My mother continues with “I told you so” every chance she gets a chance after hearing some kind of news on the television regarding President Obama.  She gets a little excited, goes over board and I haven’t even read what he had to say as of late that has m mother all upset.

Anyway, today I ran up on an article called Mom-n-Chief about our First Lady.  I’ve read several later who actually feel short changed because a First Lady with her intelligence and in her field she is doing us (the citizens) an injustice.  When, in reality, what you should see is that this woman is giving to her children, helping meet the needs that they have and will have in the coming weeks.

What do you think?

What would your answer be?

If I were to go out into the world tomorrow and poll women as I just randomly found them walking down them walking down the street and I asked this one question, "

"describe yourself?"

What do you think most women would say?  It was a hard one for me to when I first looked at it but our First Lady answered with the most pristine of all thoughts, "I am Malia and Sasha's Mom"

People that's a big role.  Look at the children of previous presidents and where they are now.  Some good, some not so good.  But you know before she was their mother, she was a wife, a lawyer, a public servant, and she was Fraser and Marian Robinsons's daughter.

But, as her life has taken one turn right after another and to us, they all look wonderful, to her, I'm sure there were times when she didn't think it was all so great.  But, the bottom line is this, Malia is 10 and Sasha is 7.  And, I happen to be in love with their faces and the fact that their own mother and father, being President and First Lady have not lost site of the fact that they are parents to two awesome little girls who are going to need their parents for leadership.

Thieves, argh

Here’s the deal, we have been very lucky.  We never had anyone break inside the daycare and still although someone did still the air conditioner right before we bought it but that was the building owners responsiblity anyway.  But, just recently I heard where a daycare in Panama City was broken into and of course, like me she had insurance but no alarm system.

Then, out of the blue, one of the parents of a kid on my son’s baseball team said that when they got to work one Monday morning, everything was gone just about.  She said they had crawled into some tiny duct work opening and just opened the back door and giggy-i-o upped right on out of there.  They got air compressors, copper any and everything they could find and just gobs and bogs stuff they have no use for. And, fortunately the building owner on my daycare had an alarm installed after that and this doctor is now looked into home alarm systems since they are all just right there close.
